Freddie Smith talks about his journey to becoming an actor and a realtor, his favorite spots in Florida, and his favorite books. He also shares words of wisdom for aspiring actors and realtors!

Lauren — Travel and Write Today: When/how did you initially decide to go into acting?

Freddie Smith: When I was 17 years old, I was faced with the burning question most high schoolers are faced with – What do you want to do for a living? I didn’t have a clear answer to that question, but one day I signed up for a theatre arts class, and it changed everything. I started taking more acting classes outside of high school as well, and decided to give it a shot in Hollywood. I graduated high school in May of 2006 and three weeks later, I packed up my car and drove to Los Angeles to pursue my dream!

TWT: I love this story! I am so glad you decided to listen to the nudge from the universe to not only take the acting class, but to move out to LA!

TWT: How/when did you decide to become a realtor? I love speaking with multi-passionate people.

FS: Throughout my life I have pursued many different adventures. I feel the more you challenge yourself, the more you learn about yourself. After nearly 15 years in Hollywood, my wife and I decided to start a new chapter, and we moved to Florida. We both always loved real estate, and my wife was the first one to get her real estate license in 2021. About 8 months later, I decided to join my wife and become a real estate agent, as well. Working together as a team is a lot of fun! I truly enjoy working with others, and helping people find their dream homes and investment properties!

TWT: That is so great that you are able to do this together!

TWT: I know you grew up in Ohio, what are some of your favorite spots to visit when you are back there? 

FS: I visit Ohio at least once a year, and most of my time is spent with family. I’m very blessed to have a big family, so we all get together and have BBQs and pool parties in the summer. One of our favorite activities is to hang out at Geneva on the lake. Great food and entertainment!

TWT: What are some of your go-to spots in Florida?

FS: Celebration, Florida is incredible! Walking and biking trails, many places to eat, and the city has such a fun energy and vibe! We also frequent restaurant row in Dr. Phillips. There are endless places to dine with friends or for date night!

TWT: What is your favorite book?

FS: I think it’s a tie between The Slight Edge (Jeff Olson) and How to Win Friends and Influence People (Dale Carnegie). I highly recommend these two books!

TWT: What is your go-to coffee/tea order, and from where?

FS: If I don’t make my own at home, I will go to McDonald’s for a coffee! Sometimes Dunkin’, but McDonald’s tastes the best!

TWT: What is your favorite place to watch the sunrise/sunset?

FS: I can enjoy the sunset anywhere. Especially if my wife and our dog Benji are by my side!

TWT: Great answer! It reminds me of this Dave Matthews Band lyric “Turns out not where, but who you’re with that really matters…”

TWT: What advice would you give to aspiring actors? Any words of wisdom for aspiring realtors? I’ve been learning so much about real estate, and it is such an interesting and exciting industry! 

FS: In today’s world, making videos for social media is a must. No matter what business you want to start, having a presence online will benefit you greatly. Also, make sure you are enjoying the journey rather than just the goal. Most of your time is spent on the journey. Have fun, be yourself, and be authentic. When you are honest, positive, and optimistic, you’ll attract great people and opportunity into your life.

TWT: This is so true, and great advice for people in all industries and professions.

TWT: Can you tell us you and Alyssa’s podcast?  

FS: We have a podcast called The Freddie & Alyssa Show. We are approaching our four-year anniversary, of the show, this April! Personally, we look at our podcast as a video journal or diary of our lives. We chat about everything from personal stories, triumphs and challenges, pop culture, tech, real estate, travel, and we also bring on guests at times for a chat! Our main goal is to entertain, inspire and educate.
